25.01.2016Rust Fungus Coleosporium domingense
Very interesting bee activity we found. Bee on a sheet of Plumeria Frangipani tree. The flowers of this tree the bees would not attend because they do not secrete nectar. At night and in the morning otherwise emit a strong smell, which attracts (Divisions) pollinators - spinx moth, but no nectar. Bees have been observed for several days in a row on the leaves of plants, which are attacked with Rust Fungus Coleosporium domingense. Bees collect Rust Fungus and carry like pollen to the hive.
02.01.2016Sweet surprise
In beekeeping with Asian bee hive with a high cover is often sweet surprise. Hives in use in Thailand, Vietnam and probably in many places in Asia have between coms and cover approximately 15 cm airspace. The same caps are also used in Cambodia in beekeeping with more honey supers.
Well, if we are lucky, space bees in a short time fill free space with bee combs and honey. This is sweet surprise, we love it!
30.12.2015Italian Slovenian cooperation in Cambodia
A.mellifera carnica bees and A.mellifera ligustica bees jointly filled honeycomb with honey. Of course, in the same bee hive. Currently we do not have any pure family of A. mellifera carnica, but still find the individual bees and drones carnica species.

Males bees Pseudapis siamensis in daylight fight for females. At night, however, they rest in groups.
11.12.2013The book is completed: Bees and beekeeping in Cambodia
General idea of book is present bees and beekeeping simple as simple is possible, but same time give to beginner s enough information’s about bees life and beekeepers skill to be able manage their own apiary. That’s reason why in book are many pictures. The content of book Based on real work with bees since 2005. Still working on the hardest part: translations and fundraising for the issue.
We will be very grateful for any help or idea how to bring the book to readers. It will be first book in Cambodian language about bees and beekeeping.
11.03.2013We visit Thailand beekeepers in Chantaburi
Beekeeping Centre operates under the Ministry of Agriculture. One of its tasks is linked to bee pollination. They practice as well stingless bees of the genus Trigona.
05.02.2013Solitary bee: Gnathonomia thoracica Smith 1875
Another solitary bee from the collection, identify bees helps us Mr. Alain Pauly, Belgian expert on bees of the genus Nomia
04.02.2013Solitary bee: Ceratina (Ceratinidia) sp
We have a beautiful collection of native bees, thanks Mr. Dr. Andre Gogala for help identify bee species.
19.12.2012Collecting of pollen
Certain types of flowering plants open their flowers in the late afternoon. Some pollen is so attractive that many workers came back home late after sunset.
11.12.2012Honeyflow of kapok tree Ceiba pentandra: Bombaceae
The dream of every beekeeper, on a photo of the flower can be seen what amounts of nectar secreted tree - unfortunately at night. However, the European honey bee can fly like A. dorsata, one or two our before sunrise
12.04.2012Bees and other pollinators in Cambodia.
Minutes of the Slovenian Beekeepers Association (Commission on alternative pollinators):
In an extremely interesting, video-assisted lecture us mr.Tomaž Oštir lecturer in the two-hour show and described the transmission of live bees and other pollinators in Cambodia, his efforts and achievements in the field of beekeeping in the Slovenian school in Cambodia and highlighted the differences in living environment and the survival rates of bees between Slovenia and this country. We have seen many of our entirely new conditions of life and adaptation to extreme conditions of bees, which sometimes prevail in this country. Discussed types of bees:
Honeybees and other pollinators: A. dorsata, ceran, florea, and andreniformis neželate bees of the genus Fusarium Melipon and Trigon, wood bees Xlocope, Megachiliidae, Megachiliidae sculpturalis and Amegilla sp.
At this point, on behalf of all participants once again sincerely thank the lecturer for his valuable time and effort that is dedicated to our committee.
Janez Grad, President of the Commission
05.03.2012Tomaž is going back to Slovenia
Bee school master Tomaž Oštir is going back to Slovenia where he will treat bees, bred queens, gained royal jelly, honey, ... and in the autumn he'll be back to Cambodia to teach and lead the school.
01.03.2012Bees are not evil.
The combination of Slovenian beekeeping practices and the Cambodian approach.
20.02.2012The first serious pasture
A tree that is full bloom, fill the honeycomb. The beekeeper educated at the school, has decided to treat bees began with one family of A.cerane. Location seems promising as well as bee he is a big animal lover. Therefore, we trust him to protect two families A.mellifere. In addition to breeding pigeons, fish and in our places of interest - crickets. It's nice to hear a few thousand crickets sing songs wedding feast.
15.02.2012New acquisition - trailer
Beekeeper Soti saved the money to buy a trailer working with "Kojun". Mr.Viktor Nemes from Romania donated "Kojun" for our project. With trailers, will be engaged in plowing and in the more remote villages and increased utilization of (Kojun). Currently Soti has 9 families A. cerana and two family of a.mellifera. He tested A.cerano if they work honeycomb if we give them arfitisal base. In our surprise they work!
02.02.2012Apis florea is now at the BAC
Apis florea, which was moved in late September from a tree in the courtyard before the BAC (otherwise the hunters would eat them) has progressed in a very strong family, just before spawning. Honey is negligible, but A. floreja is excellent and important pollinators. Because of size is modest and remains in use in areas where for the A.cerano and A. dorsato is not enough food. It is important too keep them in greater numbers in the wild.
04.01.2012new bee families
The association is from the New Year richer for five families of bees A.mellifera. With their help will acquire substantially in education quality. At the moment the bees are in headquarters, in week two will migrate. With the two families we're testing on a promising location at the Pursat River, about 15 km away from the town of Pursat to the south.
Special thanks to Brane-Piano Rotary Club Barbara of Celje, Marku Valjavcu - Rotary Club Bled and of course Matej Jenko - RC Velenje of the contributions for the purchase of bees!
21.11.2011Education was a smooth operation with great interest.
It was attended by the Saint Paul Institute & Takeo organization, from the province Kajp - teacher and two french students. Others were people from Pursat, where increasing interest.

sreyhnahn.bun@cambodia-bee.org or tomaz.ostir@cambodia-bee.org
15.10.2011Beekeeper Sergei
Beekeeper Sergei successfully expand its beekeeping and increases the quantity produced delicious honey. Although some swear by the A.Dorsata, A.Cerana and A.Florea is the fact that during A.Melifera by the very technology of production (when the honey harvest is ripe satih) denser, less water, but not fermented. How do experts determine whether there is the quality - it is not fake. After teaspoons of honey in a few minutes you feel the warmth that extends from the stomach throughout the body. Honey is a very energy-rich nutrient that moves very quickly into the bloodstream.
05.10.2011Visiting province Pailin
Visiting province Pailin, east of Cambodia. The slopes of mountains Cardamom are beautiful, covered with forests, of course, very depleted. Unlike the major part of the country where there are a few years ago grew a rainforest, is here, now still green throughout the year. In this area is full of huge plantations of fruit trees, dominated by the Asian corn and potatoes. Alluring province for beekeepers, but it's also hidden traps, known by pesticides and insecticides.
01.10.2011Apis andreniformis
After five years of searching we finally foud fifth real living bees in Cambodia - found in nature. We foud them about 15 km from Pursata. Bees size is somethig A.Floreje, but fly faster like they would have been more timid, or perhaps realize how rare remaining alive in the area.

Locating bees in nature is very imoprtant. If the local "bee hunters" finding the bee family they usualy kill all the family to get honey. We're trying to adopt local bee (cerana) in to the bee hives.
04.03.2007Apiculture education in Kambodia
It is vital to educate Kambodia population and help them to understand importance of bees and apiculture in general. The people are still very afraid of bees... they treat bees almost like beast...
